The Art Garden At The Mississippi Museum of Art

Jackson, MS

Project Description

A 3.5 acre oasis of tree-lined lawns, fountains, and artwork which welcomed its first visitors in late September of 2011. The Architect of Record worked closely with the Design Architect, Design Landscape Architect, Planting Consultant, Lighting Designer, individual artists and the Mississippi Museum of Art staff to refine the design, develop plans and specifications and manage the construction. Several important ancillary parts of the Art Gardens project included redesigning the neighboring Thalia Mara Hall loading dock area, coordinating the work of the engineering consultants, developing barrier-free crosswalks, parking and site circulation, and working closely with the City of Jackson to develop fire and emergency access and guide the project through Planning Commission review and permitting. The City’s barrier-free design consultant commended the Architect of Record on innovative and thorough solutions to accessibility issues for sight and mobility-impaired patrons of the Art Gardens.
